How to find the right extraction method for you
Today there are more options than ever for vape consumers: Live Resin, Distillate, Live Rosin, High Terpene Extract (HTE) combinations, Sauce combinations, to name a few. These terms are often confusing and unclear. Two terms that are easily confused are Solventless and Solvent-Free. Keep reading to learn the difference.
What does Solventless mean?
Solventless is any extraction method that separates the trichome heads mechanically, using agitation or force. One of the most common methods is making ice water hash or bubble hash using only ice, water, pressure, and heat. This process uses an ice water bath to freeze the trichome heads making them brittle so they fall off the cannabis plant when agitated. This extraction method we use at Jetty to make our Ice Water Hash Pre-Rolls, Live Rosin concentrates, and Jetty’s Solventless Vape.
What does Solvent-Free mean?
Solvent-Free is a term used for extracts made using solvents, such as propane, butane and ethanol, which are purified to remove any residual solvent. Solvents remove the resin gland, including trichomes, by dissolving (separating) them from the plant. Next you must purify the extract to evaporate or eliminate the solvent and other unwanted compounds from the final product.
Whenever you use a product extracted using solvents its good to verify that the final product is Solvent-Free. Jetty’s High THC line is always Solvent-Free. You can do this by scanning the QR code on any of our packaging to review our lab results.
Which is right for me?
Both Solventless and Solvent-Free extractions are high quality products that can give you the effects you are looking for. Solventless products are never exposed to solvents and are always Solvent-Free. Solvent-Free products are made using chemical extraction and have all residual solvents removed in the final product. If you are interested in Solventless products, we recommend checking lab test results for products made with chemical extraction methods so ensure that they are Solvent-Free.
