New York Shelter Project marks an important step in extending compassionate cannabis access to more patients in need. Founded in 2014, the Jetty Extracts Shelter Project was created to provide free cannabis to cancer patients facing financial hardship, while honoring the medical cannabis roots that helped shape the industry.
As of 2026, the Shelter Project operates in California, Colorado, and New York, having donated more than $1.2 million in cannabis products to over 1,320 cancer patients. The program remains focused on delivering safe, regulated cannabis products at no cost to eligible patients through trusted dispensary partners.
How the NY Shelter Project Works for Cancer Patients
The cannabis donation project exists to humanize access to plant medicine for disadvantaged and severely ill cancer patients. Every product provided through the program is made with the same standards of care, safety, and purity that define Jetty Extracts’ approach to cannabis.
Patients are accepted into the program during two annual enrollment periods:
May 1 – June 30
November 1 – December 31
Applications are reviewed in June and December. Eligible patients who are accepted receive free cannabis products tailored to support their individual needs, which they pick up through participating dispensary partners.
Expanding Compassionate Care to New York
Jetty Extracts’ decision to bring the Shelter Project to New York reflects a continued commitment to meeting patients where they are.
Nate Ferguson, Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer of Jetty Extracts, shared his perspective on the expansion:
“Running a medical dispensary, I saw firsthand the relief cannabis provided to cancer patients and those living with chronic illness. We started the Shelter Project after seeing how much access mattered. As a native of Buffalo, I’m incredibly proud to bring this program to New York and support patients in my hometown.”
Through this expansion, eligible cancer patients in New York can now access the Shelter Project through licensed dispensary partners.
Partnering With New York Dispensaries
The Shelter Project’s presence in New York is made possible through partnerships with dispensaries that share Jetty’s commitment to compassionate care.
Bee Duangtavilay, owner of Buffalo Dreams, shared her support for the program:
“We are thrilled to partner with Jetty Extracts and bring the Shelter Project to New York. Providing free cannabis to patients in need is a powerful initiative, and we’re honored to support a brand that shares our commitment to compassionate care.”

Paul Lepore, President of Happy Days Dispensary, echoed that enthusiasm:
“Happy Days Dispensary is excited to partner with Jetty and their Shelter Project. Being able to support our community through philanthropic initiatives is central to our mission, and this collaboration allows us to extend that impact.”
Looking Ahead for The Shelter Project Patients
Expanding the project into New York represents more than geographic growth. It reflects Jetty Extracts’ ongoing dedication to compassionate cannabis access across state lines.
Ron Gershoni, Co-Founder and CEO of Jetty Extracts, shared his outlook:
“Since day one, our mission has been to make a positive impact in people’s lives. Partnering with dispensaries like Buffalo Dreams and Happy Days allows us to continue that mission on the East Coast while staying true to the values that started the Shelter Project.”
